A cleaning instruction is not a general permission to soak or heat a wooden lacquer vessel. Shirokiya’s care pages distinguish washing, wiping and storage from operations that can damage the body and finish. Read the care page together with its separate restrictions.
Technique and structure
The shop’s cleaning page permits diluted neutral dish detergent on a soft sponge or cloth for oily dirt, followed by wiping before the vessel dries completely. For stuck rice, it describes filling the inside with warm water for about ten minutes before gentle cleaning. Its warning page separately rejects soaking and says dishwashers and dish dryers damage both the lacquer and wooden body. The short, inside-the-vessel rice-cleaning step should therefore not be expanded into blanket permission for immersion or machine washing.
Heat is a separate question
The warning page excludes boiling, microwaves and ovens. It also cautions that microwave damage may not be apparent after one or two uses. An unchanged appearance after a trial is not the maker’s approval of that process. For infrequently used pieces, the care page advises wrapping in soft paper or cloth and storage away from excessive dryness.
For international readers
These are Shirokiya’s instructions for the wooden lacquerware discussed on its pages. Follow the actual maker’s directions for a different substrate or coating; the broad word lacquerware does not make every product’s cleaning and heating limits identical.
