A single instrument can bring together different woodworking connections. Tokyo’s shamisen account separates fitting the neck pieces from gluing the shaped pieces of the body.

Technique and structure

For the neck joint work, material cut into three pieces receives tenons and grooves made with a saw and chisel, then is gradually fitted together. The body operation instead joins four shaped pieces, after their ayasugi carving, with nikawa glue. The source emphasises accurate mating surfaces because that body connection uses glue without metal fittings. A fitted neck joint and a glued body seam are therefore different construction details, even within one shamisen.

Construction is not a listening test

The reference provides a making account. It does not establish the tone, condition or suitability of an individual instrument offered for sale.
