Ryusen Hamono has brought its knife-making methods to a small accessory: a black-finished Damascus keyring shaped like a kiritsuke kitchen knife. Buyers will have to wait, however. The maker’s notice, dated October 14, says the October 11 release has sold out.
A forged miniature, without a cutting edge
Ryusen lists ATS314 steel and 63-layer Damascus construction for the knife motif, which measures approximately 7.9 cm overall. The company says artisans forge each piece using the same manufacturing approach as its kitchen knives. A surface treatment gives the patterned metal its dark finish. The accessory is not sharpened.
The launch was limited to Ryusen’s Factory & Store in Echizen, Fukui Prefecture. The company has not fixed future sales plans, specifications or delivery timing. This is an availability update, not an announcement of a restock.
The craft behind the accessory
Ryusen’s account of Echizen blade-making describes a regional tradition that continues to use forge work and hand sharpening. That background gives international readers a way to place this small object within the area’s wider tool-making culture.
