Forty-eight textiles are grouped by place of production in NUNO’s Portland exhibition. The maker’s October 16 report schedules Weaving Time: NUNO – Textiles of Tradition and Transformation at Portland Japanese Garden from October 3, 2026, to February 14, 2027.

Two forms of display

The NUNO Cubes installation uses six textiles from each of eight prefectures: Yamagata, Gunma, Saitama, Yamanashi, Fukui, Shiga, Kyoto and Fukuoka. This is a new arrangement of an installation first shown in 2021, rather than a claim that all 48 fabrics are new.

The separate NUNO Byobu screens combine translucent fabric with bamboo frames. NUNO credits their fabrication to collaboration with woodworker Chuzo Tozawa. Bamboo here identifies the frame material; it does not establish the textile’s fibre composition or that it is handwoven.

The announcement places the work across two garden galleries and says exhibition viewing is included in garden admission. We have not visited. Current opening hours, admission prices and closure dates remain unverified.
