Dyeing the yarn does not finish a Murayama Oshima pattern. Tokyo’s specification separates preparing the kasuri yarn from bringing its pattern together at the loom.
Technique and structure
The cloth is specified as yarn-dyed plain weave, with kasuri yarn in both warp and weft. That yarn is dyed by itajime, a method the reference describes using patterned carved boards. During weaving, the worker aligns the warp and weft patterns by hand. The dyed yarn therefore carries a prepared pattern, but its position still has to be coordinated as the cloth is made.
Ask about two stages
A useful process description identifies both the yarn-dyeing method and the later alignment work. A photograph of the finished motif supplies neither detail on its own.
For international readers
Ask the workshop how the yarn was prepared and aligned. Obtain care instructions for the actual cloth; this process account supplies no washing or shrinkage rating.
