Miyata Orimono’s DOKODEMO has reached the nomination stage of the Fukuoka Design Award, according to the weaver’s October 23 notice. This is not an announcement that it has won an award.
A use for short lengths of cloth
The hanging handkerchief was developed to use lengths of fabric of a few metres left over during production. Miyata identifies its cloth as its Wamomen fabric called “Slub-iri Hikisoroe” and says the handkerchief can attach to a bag or belt loop. No fibre percentage or washing instruction is inferred from the fabric name.
Miyata’s company history places its founding in 1913 in Chikugo, Fukuoka, beginning with Kurume kasuri weaving. That history provides the production background; it does not mean every current product is handwoven kasuri.
The notice schedules the award exhibition for November 5 at JR Kyushu Hall, with free public entry from noon. The linked product shop could not be read, so this report makes no current-stock or purchase-acceptance claim.
