Yoshida Metal Industry announced on October 15, 2026 that GLOBAL-PRO Bartender received a 2026 Good Design Award. The award concerns a revived knife, rather than an October launch: the maker’s July 21 release scheduled sales from July 28. Keeping those dates separate makes the news easier to read.
Technique and structure
The July release describes a new hand-applied final edge finish called Meister Edge, a double-edged specification for right- and left-handed use, and a black version with a surface coating. The edge finish and the coloured surface are different features. The maker says whetstone sharpening removes the coating where it is abraded, revealing silver-coloured stainless steel; its regrinding service treats the black knife’s edge without polishing the whole knife to retain the exterior colour. A black surface is therefore not, by itself, a separate blade-steel specification.
Read the dimensions with the model
The launch notice lists GPR-23 and GPR-23/BK with a 13 cm blade, 23 cm overall length and 65 g weight, with some individual variation. It identifies a molybdenum- and vanadium-containing stainless blade and an 18-8 stainless handle. These are maker-listed launch specifications, not measurements from our own testing. We do not convert the maker’s cutting-performance claims into an independent verdict.
