Edo kacchu appears in the tradition of armour displayed for the May seasonal festival. Its craft specification treats the helmet bowl and the laced components as separate making questions.

Technique and structure

Tokyo lists several alternatives for forming the helmet bowl, including hammering out, joining and mould-based methods. A separate requirement describes making the kozane elements used for odoshi-ita. Lacing is then specified as hand work using kebiki-odoshi or sugake-odoshi. Those clauses should not be collapsed into one technique: knowing a lacing name does not tell a reader which bowl-forming option was used.

Ask for a component description

The material list includes metals, washi, leather and cords. It is a range of craft materials, not evidence that every visible part is metal or that every example uses the same combination.

For international readers

Confirm the actual components and intended display use with the maker. The reference establishes no protective-equipment rating or suitability for combat.
