Studio Watt announced yamanuno on October 8, 2026, with sales through its CHAORAS online shop scheduled to start on October 14. The Japanese textile maker describes it as a single cloth for uses such as a scarf or head wrap. The launch covers Petal, Canyon and Night, priced at ¥7,920 including Japanese tax.
Technique and structure
CHAORAS calls its edge-finishing step fusa-nuki: workers remove threads by hand to form a fringe instead of sewing a hem. The maker identifies the fabric itself as Banshu cloth woven on shuttle looms. Weaving the fabric and finishing its edges are separate stages, so the stated hand finishing does not establish that the weaving was done by hand. This distinction also gives the snagging instructions context: for this cloth, the supplier says to adjust a pulled thread rather than cut it.
The fabric is 100% cotton. The inspected Petal listing specifies approximately 110 × 80cm and a weight of 49g. It warns that dyeing can cause shrinkage and variation from the stated dimensions. These measurements describe the finished cloth; they are not a guarantee that every piece will have identical dimensions.
Care before and after use
CHAORAS recommends washing the cloth before its first use. Its product instructions call for water at 30°C or below, with either a laundry net or hand washing. Bleach and tumble drying are excluded; hang drying in shade is specified. If ironing, the stated maximum temperature is 150°C.
The maker also warns about snagging on buttons, necklaces and zips. Pulled threads should be adjusted rather than cut. These are the supplier's care directions; we have not tested washing, drying speed or wear performance.
