Wood and plaster appear in the current material guidance for THREEDIO, Brother Industries’ software for preparing cutting-machine data. The company announced its dedicated website and free trial recruitment on October 19. It remains in development towards a commercial product, with companies participating at an early stage.
What the current trial covers
THREEDIO takes STL-format 3D data and generates NC data and machining instruction sheets. Brother describes support for three-axis machining of the front and back faces. Its FAQ excludes undercuts and side machining, and gives the current maximum working size as 242 mm in X, 242 mm in Y and 50 mm in Z.
The listed machines are Iwama’s TAKMill and Roland DG’s MDX-540 and MDX-50. The FAQ provides cutting conditions for ABS, POM, PC and PP, and says soft materials such as wood and plaster can also be machined. These are the developer’s stated capabilities; we have not tested the software or a cutting machine.
Free trial participation has two stated conditions: continuing access to a supported machine that can retain the dedicated fixture, and the prospect of machining approximately once a month or more during the trial. This is conditional recruitment, rather than unrestricted access to a finished consumer product.
